When I planned my own wedding, I had no idea that the experience would completely change the course of my life.
Between juggling a demanding career, family expectations, and countless moving pieces, I quickly realized that planning a wedding is much more than booking a venue and picking flowers — it’s a full-time project.
This journey is the reason I became a Luxury Destination Wedding Planner, and today I want to share the lessons I learned so you don’t have to repeat my mistakes.
The Dream vs. Reality
Like many brides, I had a Pinterest board full of inspiration and a vision for my big day. But when the planning began, reality hit:
Endless Vendor Research: Finding the right caterer, florist, DJ — all while staying within budget — took hours each week.
Decision Fatigue: Every choice felt monumental, from table linens to seating charts.
Logistical Stress: Coordinating timelines, payments, and family expectations was overwhelming.
I realized that while I was creating something beautiful, I wasn’t enjoying the process as much as I should have.
Key Lessons I Learned
1. A Wedding Is a Full-Scale Project
Your wedding isn’t just one day — it’s a multi-month event involving dozens of professionals and hundreds of decisions. Treating it as a project (with timelines and milestones) is essential.
2. Communication Is Everything
Between vendors, family, and partners, clear communication is what keeps everyone aligned and stress levels low.
3. Your Experience Matters More Than the Décor
While décor is important, I learned that what truly stays with you is how you felt on that day — calm, present, and surrounded by love.
How This Experience Shaped My Mission
After my wedding, I felt a strong calling to help other couples avoid the overwhelm I went through. It wasn’t about th “BIG CALL” of many fellows collegues , like ” i planned my wedding and it was amazing that’s why i decided da da dada”. But a real awareness that it is a full job and that no birde or groom should have to do it alone, not even their loved ones.
This is why I founded Licia Bouiti Weddings & Celebrations: to guide couples through every step, curate the best vendors, and create experiences that are not only beautiful but deeply meaningful.
